Elio, a European exchange student new to America, is reluctantly guided around the school by classmates Reyna and Alexis, who help him feel welcome in his new environment.
In a turn of events, Reyna and Alexis end up liking Elio and spend more time with him eventually having him join their friend group.
Soon enough, Elio meets Reynas best friend, Yaretzi. Halfway through the school year, Elio develops feelings for Yaretzi, causing a rift in the friendgroup dynamic.

Elio (or Elliot) is a foreign exchange student from Leeds, Yorkshire who has to spend a whole school year in California. Elio was born into a third generation immigrant family, both coming from Italy.
Elio first signed up for the foreign exchange program with nothing to do and an annoying friend group to escape. When he first arrived in California, he was quiet and seemed rude. Despite what people may say or think based on his and distant and aloof personality, He is actually very socially anxious and awkward around new people. He tries to avoid any social interactions whenever possible, mostly keeping to himself, trying to go unnoticed.
When he tries to socialize, he can be very charming and calm. Yet due to his quiet nature and shy apperance, many people assume that he doesn't want company, or to be at school, making it hard for him to make friends until a group of girls took pity on him: a diverse fashion group, a basic girl, a goth girl, and a tomboy.
Alexis Lee Ae-jung

Alexis is a Korean American, Born in Carrizo Springs, Texas to First generation immigrants parents. In 2000, her parents moved up to California, with education in mind as their #1 priority.
Alexis is the "youngest" twin, as she was born 50 minutes later then her twin, Hana Lee (Lee Ha-Na). Alexis is a hard working person with an amazing sense of humour-she's the kind of person you want to be around Despite being witty on the surface, Alexis struggles with living in her twin sisters shadow.
As a result of this inner conflict, she rebels by poorly cutting her own hair, sitting alone in her messy room all day, and just being lazy. She usually is called "돼지" by her parents and family members for her "pigsty" of a room.
Reyna “Guadalupe” Sandoval

Born September 15, 1990 Tulsa, Oklahoma, moved to Fontana, California.
Reyna was born to immigrant parents, so when she moved to Cali she was enrolled into ESL when she first started school. At school, she was thought of as "weird" and "strange" because she doesn't speak to her peers much.
In freshman year, she slowly became goth which her classmates took notice to. Her fashion sense seemed odd to them, with her use of dark clothes that aren't in mainstream fashion, and vintage jewellery.
This began to not only make her seem more mysterious, but also attracted two friends! Yaretzi and Alexis. Despite what people think of her, she's actually an incredibly sweet girl who's trying her best to get through highschool. In fact, she’s so disgustingly sweet, it could give you a cavity.
